Everyone Loves The Beach
Whether you are visiting the Baja Peninsula on vacation or are looking at the many beautiful homes for sale in Cabo, you’re going to want to know the best areas to hit up for some fun in the sun and relaxation once you have reached your destination.
The Pacific side of Baja has glistening azure waters and soft, sandy beaches. As a result, it is the destination of choice for thousands of vacationers every year. In fact, Cabo San Lucas is one of Mexico’s busiest tourist destinations.
Before you head out to either coastline of Cabo San Lucas, there are a few things you need to know. Most importantly, not all beaches are safe for swimmers. To be specific, be wary as several beaches on the Pacific side of Baja have dangerous waves and strong undertows.
Which Beaches in Los Cabos are Swimmable?
With so many visitors, Los Cabos boasts some of the best beaches in the world. There’s a lot to choose from as it isn’t short for beautiful oceanside shorelines, but after careful consideration (and a little research), we’ve narrowed down the list to the top 3 beaches in Los Cabos that also happen to be swimmable!:
- Santa Maria Beach
Santa María Beach begins as a wide horseshoe between rock outcroppings to the north and falls gently into an oblong oval beach that terminates at a long, sandy point. The sand is fine and pink like saffron to match the sky and sea at sunrise and sunset and kiss the shore with lilting waves of kiss-me-quick foam. It is warm and powdery to lie upon, but not quite dry for an hour after low tide, making sunning difficult – yet perfect for skim boarding or scrawling your initials with its squeaky crunch.
All in all, Santa Maria Beach is an excellent choice for swimming, snorkeling, and relaxing. It’s an under-the-radar choice among the best of Cabo’s beaches . Plus, it comes with a winning combination of charming scenery, crystal-clear water, and pleasant amenities for your relaxation!
- El Medano Beach
El Medano Beach ranks high on almost anyone’s list of the best beaches in Cabo San Lucas. In fact, many people, both locals and tourists alike, consider this beach to be the main attraction of the city. It is located about 20 minutes from the city center and gets its name from a rock formation that resembles an old broken fishing net.
El Medano Beach features white sand and calm waters that are absolutely perfect for swimming during any time of year. However, keep in mind that when the storms roll in you’ll be much better off staying out of the water due to ill-tempered waves.
Apart from swimming, you can try out water sports such as kayaking and parasailing. There are also many restaurants offering a variety of cuisines to suit any palate that can be enjoyed while taking in the incredible views of the Sea of Cortez and El Arco de Cabo San Lucas.
- Playa Del Amore
Lovers Beach is another spectacular site in the desert that makes the Baja California Peninsula such a great place to visit. Situated near El Arco de Cabo San Lucas, and located a quick water taxi away from the Cabo San Lucas Marina, this location is a great place to relax and take in the scenery. The waves can be very strong here, but in the right environment you may be able to wade out several feet into the water.
Also connected to Playa del Amor (Lover’s Beach), but more dangerous is Playa Divorcio (Divorce Beach). Playa Divorcio, is not named for the seemingly poetic idea of being so in love to the point one would go there to get married, but instead because of its dangerous waves and rip currents.
In contrast to Playa del Amor, which has a shallow seabed allowing tourists to safely swim in its warm waters while admiring the view of the island’s serrated coast, this beach is considered a no-swim zone. Just walk along the beach and enjoy the beautiful Caribbean ocean crashing on the rocks over and over again, it’s the perfect opportunity to take some photos.
